Nigerian rapper Olamide has become a global ambassador of his country’s music. Born in Lagos State, Nigeria, Olamide attended Tai Solarin University of Education. He was forced to drop out when his parents couldn’t manage his tuition. In 2011, Olamide released his debut album Rapsodi, which earned a Best Rap Album nomination at the Nigerian awards show The Headies. Olamide won Album of the Year at The Headies with three consecutive LPs: 2012’s YBNL, 2013’s Baddest Guy Ever Liveth, and 2014’s Street OT.He founded the record label Yahoo Boy No Laptop Nation (or YBNL) in 2012. The roster includes fellow Nigerian artists DJ Enimoney, Fireboy DML, B.Banks, and Temmie Ovwasa.Olamide primarily raps in Yoruba, a language spoken in West Africa. His rapid flow has helped to popularize hip-hop in Nigeria.
